Abstract

PURPOSE: To cheaply purify bas containing lower aldehydes with a high efficiency, by contacting the gas containing lower aldehydes with water solution having a specifically fixed pH and containing water soluble sulfite and thiosulfate.
CONSTITUTION: Lower formaldehydes are absorbed in water soluble sulfite by contacting gas containing lower aldehydes with water solution of water soluble sulfite used as the main absorbing agent of lower aldehydes and contained more than 5 millimol/l and pH 6.0W7.3 of water soluble thiosulfate solution used as antioxidant of sulfite and containing more than 2 milliol/l, in gas-liquid contact state.
EFFECT: Aldehydes, such as acetaldehyde or acrolein etc. except formaldehyde, are able to remove at more than 80% of removing rate.
