Abstract

PURPOSE: To cause mercury vapor to react with simple substance of sulfur and remove the mercury in a gas contg. mercury at high efficiency by contacting the gas with the carrier stuck with powder of simple substance of sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: Natural simple substance of sulfur of a powder state is mixed with water or water contg. 5wt% sulfuric acid. Next, natural pumice, silica, coke or the like having large surface areas and on which sulfur is easy to stick, as a carrier of carrying simple substance of sulfur, is formed into a granule state and the said mixed liquid is stuck on the surfaces of the granules, whereby an absorbent is prepared. Thence, the absorbent is packed in an absorption tower and the gas contg. mercury is passed therethrough, whereby the mercury vapor is reacted with the simple substance of sulfur.
