Abstract

PURPOSE:To largely improve the light utility rate of and to stabilize the quality of a light emitting diode by aligning the light emitting surface of an LED or the photodetecting surface of a photodetecting element and the end face of an optical fiber and positioning the light emitting surface or the photodetecting surface directly above the optical fiber under a microscope. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 1 is so confronted like a spacer as to bend the end of an electric lead wire 2, the upper surface of the lead wire is formed in a flat state, they are temporarily fixed with an insulator 3 so that the flat surface and the end face of the optical fiber 1 are aligned in a stem state. The light emitting portion 6 of a planar type LED is so positioned on the stem as to be directly above the end face of the optical fiber 1 under a micorscope, and is thus mounted thereon. Thus, the light utility rate is largely improved by forming the shape that the optical fiber is coupled directly with the light emitting portion, and there can be obtained a product in which the quality thereof is stabilized due to common fabricating step to the reference step of the semiconductor. In case that a photodetecting diode element is used instead of the LED, there can also be obtained a product having stable quality similar to the LED.
