Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove gas in a metal efficiently by applying ultrasonic vibration to the liquid phase when solidifying the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:When solidifying the molten metal after melting a metal, ultrasonic vibration is applied to the liquid phase preferably intermittently. A certain amount of gas is generated when a metal solidifies. The generation of gas is prometed by applying ultrasonic vibration. The efficiency of degasification can be further increased by agitating the liquid phase concurrently with application of ultrasonic vibration. This degassing method can be applied, for instance, to remove H2 gas from molten Al in semicontinuous casting of industrial pure Al slab.
