Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the central segregation and center porosity in the central part of an ingot by applying oscillations to the molten steel in a mold by means of an oscillating body dipped in said molten steel. CONSTITUTION:While the molten steel 5 charged into a mold 4 from a tundish 1 is oscillated by the operation of an oscillating body 7 dipped in the steel 5, it solidifies gradually to form an ingot 6 which is drawn downward. Said oscillating body is connected to, for example, an oscillation generator 8. The generator 8 generates the microoscillations of high frequencies or rhe oscillations close to mold oscillations. In this case, no more central segregation and center porosity are admitted in the central part of the ingot 6.
