Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent sticking of an ingot to a mold for continuous casting and to obtain the ingot of superior characteristics by dividing the side wall parts of said mold in contact with a solidified shell axially from the side wall parts on the lower stream side thereof and oscillating the molds ultrasonically. CONSTITUTION:Side walls 3 of a mold for continuous casting are mounted with plural pieces of ultrasonic oscillators 4 at prescribed intervals in axial line and circumferential directions. The side walls are divided in such a way that the oscillators arranged at the beginning end (a) of the solidified shell and in the circumferential direction corresponding to the side wall parts near the same to be brought into contact with the solidified shell are parted from the oscillators 4 on the down stream side. The oscillators 4 arranged circumferentially in the side wall parts in contact with the solidified shell are driven at larger amplitudes than for the rest. In this way, the sticking of an ingot 9 is prevented and the ingot 9 of superior characteristic is obtained.
