Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a firm shell in an early time by giving rotating flow to molten steel with a rotary type electromagnetic agitator provided to the inside and outside of a mold thereby solidifying the molten steel in the circumferential direction of the shell uniformly. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel in a mold 2 installed to a feed nozzle 1 mounted horizontally to the side wall in the lower part of a tundish is flowed around the axial direction of an ingot by a rotary type electromagnetic agitator 5 mounted to the mold 2. As a result, the ruggedness at the solidification interface of the shell is decreased; hence, the solidification of the molten steel in the circumferential direction of the shell is made uniform. The rate of solidifaction of the molten steel is increased and the uniform and firm shell is formed in an early time.
