Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out an optimum combustion of ashes in the case of using a solid fuel which produces scattered ashes containing a relatively large amount of uncombusted matter by providing additionally an auxiliary fluid furnace at a fluid layer forming part of the furnace and introducing the combustion gas of the auxiliary fluid furnace into the fluid layer forming part.

CONSTITUTION: Prior to initiating combustion in the furnace 1, a fluid bed is formed of a fluid medium suitable for the combustion therein in both a main fluid furnace 2 and the auxiliary fluid furnace 3. Then, a mixer 12 mixes an air fed from a fan 13 and fine particles of auxiliary solid fuel for initiating the combustion fed from a fuel supplier 14. The resultant mixture is blown into the auxiliary fluid furnace 3 through a fuel distributor 8. Then a fluid layer prepared in the furnace 3 is fired by an igniter 9 and thus the auxiliary fluid bed is burned. The combustion gas produced in the furnace 3 is then introduced into the main fluid furnace 2 through a communication hole 3a1 to heat the main fluid bed. At the same time, a combustion air is blown into the furnace 2 from a wind box 5 through an air distributor 4 so as to fluidize the main fluid bed.
