Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a high-strength high-lubricity sliding member with less abrasion by allowing graphite powder coated with metal or alloy to float on molten metal and solidifying the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: When graphite powder is mixed and dispersed in molten metal or alloy, graphite powder coated with metal or alloy floats on the molten metal owing to the specific gravity difference. Much graphite powder is present in the upper layer, and less graphite powder in the lower layer. No graphite powder may be present in the lower layer to make the structure of the layer equal to that of substrate metal or alloy. Thus, a sliding member having a high strength layer and a high lubricity layer is manufactured. The molten metal or alloy used is Al, Mg, Ni or other metal or their alloy. The graphite dispersing method is not restricted especially.
