Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled copper alloy excellent in abrasion resistance and mechanical properties by preparing a copper alloy containing Sn and Bi at specified ratios.
CONSTITUTION: The copper alloy is prepared which contains 2W20wt% of Sn and 0.5W10wt% of Bi with the Sn content being at least 1.0 times of the Bi content, wherein particles of compounds of Sn and Bi are uniformly precipitated and distributed in a matrix. By incorporating either one or both of Cr and Si into the said copper alloy in an amount of 0.1W1wt% respectively, the arc-resisting property of the alloy is conspicuously enhanced without lowering its electrical conductivity. When carbon particles having a particle size of minus 100 mesh and in the form of graphite or a mixture of graphite and amorphous carbon is dispersed in the alloy in an amount of 0.5W10wt%, abrasion resistance can be enhanced due to a solid lubricant action of carbon, independently of resistance to sticking abrasion.
