Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a Cu-Al type sintered friction material with increased wear resistance by using hard Cu-Al alloy powder as the Al component in the composition of a sintering material and specifying sintering temp.
CONSTITUTION: In a composition consisting of, by wt., 60W95% Cu, 1W10% Al, 0W7% Sn, 0W15% Zn, 0W10% Pb and 0W20% graphite or MoS2, most of the Al component is blended as η2- or θ-phase Cu-Al alloy powder by 3W25% of the total weight. This blended powder is sintered at ≤800°C. At this time, the sintering temp. and time are combined so that at least part of the composition of the hard Cu- Al alloy is left. Thus, a sintered friction material is obtd. No friction promoting particles are peeled off the material, and a face opposite to the material is not damaged even if local abnormal heating occurs. This material is widely used as a material for clutch and brake parts, etc.
