Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy for a sliding body with a low coefft. of friction and superior wear resistance by dispersing a specified percentage each of graphite and lead in a molten Al alloy and solidifying the resulting alloy.
CONSTITUTION: 1W20wt% graphite and 0.5W30wt% lead are dispersed in a molten Al alloy, and the resulting alloy is solidified. The preferred melting temp. of the Al alloy is about 850W1,300°C. The preferred shape of graphite is lumpy or spherical, the ratio of the area of exposed graphite particles to the sliding area is about 15W50%, and the desired particle size of graphite is about 16W60 meshes. This Al alloy shows a superior effect as a material for a light- load oilless bearing and a sliding plate.
