Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the seizing, load and high oil temp. resistances of an Al- base bearing material by adding fine-grained Al2O3 and a low m.p. soft metal such as Pb, Sn, Cd or Bi to the Al matrix of the bearing material.
CONSTITUTION: 0.5W6wt% Fine Al2O3 particles of ≤3μ minor axis are uniformly dispersed in the Al matrix of an Al-base bearing material by sintering, spraying or other method. Simultaneously, 0.5W30% one or more kinds of low m.p. soft metals such as Pb, Sn, Cd and Bi are added as a lubricant. Since the Al matrix contains finely and uniformly dispersed Al2O3, the resulting Al based bearing material shows superior seizing and load resistances without carrying out overlay plating and can be used under high oil temp. condition.
