Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture sliding bearing material having high mechanical strength, by forming an intermediate layer made of Cu alloy powder and the first surface layer having a specific thickness on a backing steel sheet, then by forming the second surface layer made by plating the first layer with Pb alloy having a specific thickness.
CONSTITUTION: Cu alloy powder 3 is spread from a hopper 2 uniformly on a backing steel sheet 1 and is sintered in a sintering furnace 4 for example at 700W900°C temp. for 5W30min in reducing atmosphere. The sintered alloy is rolled by a rolling mill 5 to form an intermediate layer 6 preferably at 1.5W2.5 reduction ratio. Cu alloy powder 8 is then spread uniformly from a hopper 7 on the intermediate layer 6, sintered in a sintering furnace 9 to form the first porous surface layer having 3W100μm thickness. The sintered layers are immediately passed through a plating bath 11 of Pb alloy without being cooled by specific cooling means. The plating bath contains a small quantities of Sn and Sb (or In) because pure Pb exhibits low corrosion resistance. The thickness of the plating is preferably not larger than 100μm.
