Abstract

PURPOSE: An inexpensive sliding material consisting of a bimetal material comprising sintering a sintered body layer consisting of iron or ferrous alloy powder infiltered with a low m.p. material of lead or the like as a backing metal in a sheet steel.
CONSTITUTION: A process of forming a sintered body layer on a sheet steel as a backing metal and a process of infiltering a low m.p. material on said sintered body layer are carried out continuously in a reducing atmosphere. One or two or more kinds of, for examples, lead, tin, bismuth, cadmium, antimony, zinc, are used as the low m.p. material in infiltration. The maximum limit of the rate of infiltration is about 40W50% porosities which are obtainable when the sintered body layer is burned in a loose state. It is also possible to use the sintered body layer prepd. by mixing copper or copper-based alloy powder to iron or ferrous alloy powder and sintering the mixture, wherein the mixing ratios of iron and copper are kept at about 7:2W3 weight ratios.
