Abstract

PURPOSE: To strengthen the insulation-resisting property of an Ag-WC contact material excellent in praticality, by letting the contact material contain small amounts of Cr and Fe.
CONSTITUTION: The electric contact material prepared by mixing predetermined amounts of Ag and WC powders, ading 0.01W5wt% of Cr and 0.01W3wt% of Fe to the mixture, forming the mixture and then sintering the formed mixture in a hydrogen atmosphere or the like. The insulation-resisting property of the contact material is remarkably improved by addition of Cr and Fe. Cr has an effect to raise the melting temperature of Ag, Fe diffused into boundaries between WC particles during sintering, improves the wettability of the WC particles to Ag, so as to enable sintering at a relatively lower operational temperature, and has an effect to enhance a bonding strength between Ag and WC. The contact material is useful in various electric devices such as a no-fuse breaker.
