Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the captioned product of Ag-silicon oxide base in which fine silicon oxide is evenly dispersed and which has superior contact point characteristic by powdering the alloy comprising the specific amount of Si to Ag to increase its surface areas then performing internal oxidation.
CONSTITUTION: Si is added to Ag at about 0.26W36% based on the alloy, thence the resultant alloy is powdered to about 60W325 mesh through , by e.g., atomization of the like. Next, this powdered alloy is heated for about 15 minutes to 5 hours at about 300W800°C in an oxidative atmosphere such as the atmosphere to cause its internal oxidation, after which it is sintered and is further subjected to plastic working. According to this method, the electric contact point material added with the third elements like graphite.metal carbides (oxides), etc. not solid solutionizing with the Ag-silicon oxide base alloy which has been considered impossible thus far may be produced and yet the impairment of the dispersion state of Si by the addition of the third elements does not occur.
