Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an arc-proof alloy used for electric contact material and electrode material or the like with an improved arc proofing and consumption rate without damaging cutability with addition of a small amount of rare earth elements in sintering Ag-W or Cu-W alloy.
CONSTITUTION: An Ag-W alloy or Cu-W alloy with a blending ratio of about 30 to 70% is sintered with addition of rare earth element such as Y and misch metal at a rate of 0.1 to 5% by weight to form electric contact material or electrode for discharge working or the like. Depending on the addition Y or the like in a limited amount, the consumption rate can be reduced with little damage to the cutability or other mechanical nature. For the rare earth element to be added, besides Y, misch metal comprising 40 to 50% of Ce, La 20 to 40% and lanthanoid for the rest is recommendable.
