Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy for lubrication wherein graphite particles having no surface treatments such as metallic coating are disposed with virtually no floating the melting the green compact of a mixture of Al-based metallic powder and the graphite particles as it is or charging the same into molten Al-based metal under agitation.
CONSTITUTION: Graphite particles are added and mixed at ≤50vol% based on the volume of green compact to and with any of Al powder, Al alloy powder or a mixture of Al powder and other metallic powder necessary for alloying of Al, and the mixture is molded in such a way that the density ratio of the green compact attains ≥70%. When this green compact (including sintered body) is melted as it is or is charged under agitation into molten Al-based metal, and the molten metal is cooled to solidify, the alloy contg. 4W30wt% graphite based on the weight of the resultant alloy is obtained. Here, the amt. of the graphite is the limit in the case of using the same under dry friction conditions, and if it is below the lower limit, no lubricating effect is obtained and in excess of the upper limit, abrasion resistance and mechanical strength degrade. If the density ratio of the green compact is below the above-described ones, the dispersion of the graphite particles is insufficient and the graphite particles float on the surface of the molten metal.
