Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the electroplating liquid capable of forming the plating film with excellent corrosion resistance on the steel surface by incorporating ammonium chloride, titanium chloride and a specific lower org. acid in a limited ratio in an electroplating liquid containing zinc chloride.
CONSTITUTION: The Zn-Ti electroplating liquid contains zinc chloride; 60W400g/l, ammonium chloride; 50W350g/l, titanium chloride; 5W80g/l and the lower org. acid containing a carboxylic acid group (e.g.: tartaric acid) and has a weight ratio of the lower org. acid to titanium chloride of 1:0.5W4.0. The steel surface is subjected to the electroplating in this plating liquid to form the Zn-Ti alloy plating film containing Ti up to maximum 15%. By this plating liquid composition the plating film of the Zn-Ti alloy with high Ti content and excellent corrosion resistance is obtained on the steel surface under a conventional operating condition.
