Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture alloy powder with superior strength by making oxides of Mo and W resulting from ammonium salts of Mo and W uniformly fine by freeze drying and alloying the oxides through a reducing process.
CONSTITUTION: Particles of a used homogeneous solid soln. of W and Mo have a composition contg. W and Mo in an Mo/W weight ratio of about 0.005W10. Oxides of W and Mo are made uniformly fine by freeze drying and reduced with a reducing agent such as hydrogen or carbon at ≥ about 800°C. Ammonium salts of ≥1 kinds of IVa, Va and VIa group metals can be added to make the resulting alloy fine and stable. The resulting alloy powder is converted into composite carbide consisting of Mo and W by reaction with carbon powder.
