Abstract
PURPOSE: An inexpensive inoculant of superior chill prevention and mechanical property improvement and long inoculation effect sustaining time obtainable for cast iron by mixing one or more kinds of Ca, Mg, B and Fe-Si containing Al and graphite in the form of powder.
CONSTITUTION: This is the inoculant for cast iron comprising mixing 20 to 80 wt% of the Fe-Si powder of special composition and 80 to 20 wt% of graphite powder comprising grinding the scraps of graphtie electrodes, etc. The special Fe- Si used in this case contains 0.5 to 6.0 wt% of one or two or more kinds of Ca, Mg, B and contains Al in such a manner that the total amount of the abovementioned elements and Al become 2 to 7 wt%. In addition, the Si content is 40 to 90 wt% and the rest is Fe. When this inoculant is inoculated to molten cast iron, the occurrence of chill is less, and the mechanical properties of the case iron improves through the accelerated graphitization of combined carbon, the shape improvement and fineing of graphite and the fineing of eutectic cells. Moreover, this inoculant is long in inoculation effect sustaining time after the inoculation, and is easy to use.
