Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a hard alloy of improved strength by mixing and pulverizing hard powder consisting of carbide, etc., of 4aW6a group metals, iron group metals and metals (compounds) for solutionizing the iron group metals then heat treating the mixture in a non-oxidative atmosphere and further mixing and pulverizing the same followed by molding and firing.
CONSTITUTION: Hard powder consisting of ≥1 kind of carbide, nitride, carbonitride, nitrooxide, and carbonitrooxide of 4a, 5a and 6a group metals (e.g.; WC) is prepared. Next, this hard powder as well as iron group metal powder of Fe, Co, Ni, etc., and powder of metals and/or metallic compounds for solutionizing the iron group metals (e.g,; TiH2) are mixed and pulverized with, for example, a wet type ball mill. Next, the mixed powders are heat-treated at 600W1,100°C in a vacuum or non-oxidative gaseous atmosphere as they are or in a press-molded state. Thence, the mixed powders after the heat treatment are molded and sintered, whereby the hard alloy of less defects, cavities, etc. and having high strength is obtained.
