Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a heat and impact resistant superhard (Mo, W)C alloy having large grain size and a uniform grain size distribution by heating (Mo, W) powder in a specified atmosphere to form coarse grains, adding graphite and powder of an iron group metal to the grains, and reacting them during sintering.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of a compound made of solid soln. of Mo and W mixed finely in the compound state is reduced. This fine powder fine powder is heated to 800W1,400°C in a reducing or inert atmosphere to form coarse grain powder having 1W10μm grain size. This (Mo, W)C is mixed with 5W50wt% graphite and powder of ≥1 kind of iron group metal such as Fe, Co or Ni, and the mixture is formed into a prescribed shape by die pressig and sintered at 1,200W1,500°C to obtain a coarse grain (Mo, W)C alloy having a stable uniform grain size distribution for a roll of a hot rolling mill, etc.
