Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide lubrication function to mate-material of friction material so as to stabilize friction operation and to reduce abrasion by a method wherein powder of graphite or MoS2 is added to mother metal powder of Fe or Fe and Cu as solid lubricator, and the mixture is formed and sintered.
CONSTITUTION: Motor material powder of Fe or Fe-Cu metal is mixed with laminar solid lubricant of graphite or MoS2 as solid lubricant, is throughly stirred, and is uniformly mixed. The mixture is put into press mold and pressed under a 3ton/cm2 forming pressure to form a given shape. The shape is heat-treated under a reducing atmosphere at 1,000°C for 60 minutes to cause metallic bond of mother metal powder and to form primary sintered body having a required strength. This is toughned by hot rolling to a density of about 95%, and again treated at 1,000°C for 30 minutes to provide secondary sintered body. To correct strain produced during sintering process, the sintered body is cold rolled, and cut to a desired size to produce mate- material of friction material.
