Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient vacuum air-tightness by forming a thin glass layer and an adhesive layer in a tapered form near the peripheral edges of the face plate of a face plate structure. CONSTITUTION:The face plate structure 17 is welded by cold pressure welding to the aperture of the vacuum outer container 16 of a glass bottomed cylinder, in which the electron gun 15 is incorporated, by using the metal sealant 18 for obtaining vacuum airtightness. In the face plate structure 17, the inner surface of the face plate 19 of a light-transmissive glass is laminated with the color-stripe filter layer 20, the adhesive layer 21, the glass thin layer 22, the transparent conductive layer 23, and the photoconductive 24 in order. The glass thin layer 22 and the adhesive layer 21 near the peripheral edges of the face plate are shaped into a tapered form. Thus, electric contact is kept between the transparent conductive layer 23 and the metal sealant 18 and a signal can therefore be taken out of the signal electrode ring 25.
