Abstract
PURPOSE:To conduct molten metal plating at a high speed in hot dipping of strip steel, by wiping the molten metal on the surface of the strip steel in a shield box of inert gas atmosphere, and by preventing the rocking motion of the strip steel by means of a noncontact guide. CONSTITUTION:A strip steel 2 is run through a plating bath 1 of molten metal such as zinc at a high speed so as to be plated with the molten zinc on the surface thereof. A shield box 4 composed of an inner wall 4a and an outer wall 4b is placed above the bath 1, and an inert gas such as N2 etc. is introduced through openings 7 into the box 4 so as to keep the inside atmosphere of the box 4 inert. Above the shield box 4 is installed a noncontact guide 6 composed of a fluid pad of static press. in order to prevent the rocking motion of the strip steel. The excess molten zinc adhered to the surfaces of the strip steel 2 rising from the bath 1 at a high speed is controlled to a prescribed quantity by the inert gas blowing off through wiping nozzles 3. Because of the inert atmosphere in the shield box 4, the zinc is hardly oxidized. Because the blown gas leaves the bath through the upper opening, it hardly collides against the surface of the zinc bath, consequently no splash is caused, so that plated surfaces of high quality are obtained.
