Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the height of a cooling tower so as to reduce the equipment cost, by dividing the convection heating zone in the alloying apparatus for plated steel sheet of a hot dipping unit into a movable section and a fixed section. CONSTITUTION:Steel strip 22 having passed through molten Zn contained in a plating pot 21 proceeds between gas jets 23, where deposited Zn is adjusted. Then the strip 22 is heated in a direct flame type heating zone 14 equipped with gas burners 15 and maintained at a hot state in a convection heating zone 16 installed above the heating zone 14 thereby alloying the plated Zn with the steel strip 22. The convection heating zone 16 is composed of a movable section consisting of a wind box 18 and spraying nozzles 19, and a fixed section consisting of a wind box 18' and spraying nozzles 19', both sections being heated by use of high-temp. combustion gas produced in the direct flame type heating zone 14. In alloying of the plated surface, both movable and fixed sections are used for heating and maintaining the strip at a hot state, and in ordinary plating process, the wind box 18' of the fixed section is used for cooling plated strip. Hence a cooler 32 is unnecessary, and the height of a cooling tower to a deflector roll 39 is decreased.
