Abstract

PURPOSE:To dry belt-shaped metal effectively and to make possible the high speed operation of a continuous heat-treating apparatus, by leading the belt-shaped metal just before it is taken out of a cooling tank, which is divided into upper and under chambers and is equipped with a cooling water pipe etc. in a prescribed manner, to a drying step after it is preliminarily heated with hot water. CONSTITUTION:Belt-shaped metal 1 delivered from a heating furnace is led through a cooling chamber 10 into a cooling water tank 25, which is divided into upper and under water tanks 25b, 25a with a dividing board 26 having a slit, through which the band-shaped metal can pass, and which is equipped with at least one of dip rolls 30, 31, and is cooled with cooling water supplied through a feed pipe 33 to the under water tank 25a. The belt-shaped metal 1 is preliminarily heated with spray of warm water or hot water supplied through nozzles 32 just before it is taken out of the upper water tank 25b, it is then transferred to the drying step. The temp. of cooling water between the rolls 30, 31 and the metal 1 is lowered thereby preventing the slip of the metal 1 due to the decrease in viscosity coefficient of the cooling water, making possible high speed operation of the continuous annealing apparatus, and decreasing drying time and reducing heat consumption.
