Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable long-time continuous hot dipping by providing sealing units before and behind a continuously one-side hot dipping unit where one side of a pretreated strip steel sheet is contacted to molten metal, to facilitate maintenance of the hot dipping chamber. CONSTITUTION:Inert gas is blown from gas inlet 9 of roll sealing unit 4 provided to the connection part between annealing furnace 2 and hot dipping chamber 3 to make the press. inside a chamber constituted with rolls 5-8 and shield plates 11, 12 slightly higher than the press. inside furnace 2 or chamber 3, thus preventing gas in furnace 2 and gas in chamber 3 from flowing in chamber 3 and furnace 2, respectively. Steel sheet 1 is one-side hot dipped in chamber 3 under a non-oxidizing atmosphere, passed through labyrinth sealing unit 19, and cooled with inert gas sprayer 21 to a temp. at which the undipped side is not oxidized. By blowing inert gas from gas introduction pipes 20, 22, 23 of labyrinth sealing units 19, 24, mutual inflow of gas between chamber 3 and cooling chamber 18 is prevented, and the atmosphere in chamber 18 is maintained.
