Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the development of temper color on the surface of steel sheet in a heating furnace on account of steam generated during water cooling, by installing a sealed vertical steel sheet path between the heating furnace and the cooling tank of a continuous annealing units, and by equipping water jacket, and a sealing mechanism, through which the steel sheet passes, at the inner wall.
CONSTITUTION: Steel sheet S heated and annealed in a heating furnace 1 is passed to a cooling water tank 3 through a sealed vertical steel sheet path 2, whose lowest end is positioned under the water surface of the cooling water tank 3. The steel sheet S is passed between plural water jackets 4, 4' made in the path 2, cooled with water spray from a spray header 10, and enters the cooling water tank 3. The invasion of steam generated during cooling is prevented by a seal rolls 8, 8' set in the path 2 above and under the first water jacket 4 and a seal gas header 9 on the upper water jacket 4; the supply of fresh atmosphere gas 17 of low dew point to the closed section Z between the seal rolls 8, 8'; and the exhaust 13 of the gas prevent the rise in the dew point of the heating chamber 1 atmosphere, so that the development of the temper color on the surface of the steel sheet caused by oxide film formation is prevented.
