Abstract

PURPOSE:To vary the size of ink drops while carrying out deflection to make it possible to carry out medium value recording by repeatedly applying a voltage of a predetermined waveform to a charge electrode in synchronism with an electric signal every time when ink drops are formed. CONSTITUTION:When a picture image signal designating the weight of ink drops is supplied from a signal source 7 to a piezo drive circuit 8, an electric signal whose amplitude and pulse width are selected is applied from the piezo drive circuit 8 to the piezo oscillator 2. The piezo oscillator 2 deforms in response to the pulse signal to increase the pressure of the ink chamber and inject ink drops through the nozzle. On the other hand, to the charge electrode 6 there is applied from voltage applying means 5 a voltage of a specific waveform in which a voltage value at the instant each ink drop is formed at every time each ink drop is formed is proportional to the weight of the ink drop formed upon this occasion, in synchronism with the electric signal, and the ink is charged so that the ratio between the charging quantity and weight of the ink drop becomes constant even when the weight of ink is varied.
