Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorter the adjusting time for detection of the deflecting position, by a method wherein the charge imparted to ink droplets is varied, and the correlation between the number of the ink particles required for charge detection and the number of the ink droplets used before the time of detecting the charge at a charge- detecting electrode is obtained. CONSTITUTION:In a deflection-controlling type ink jet recorder wherein ink droplets regularly produced by vibrating an ink ejected from a nozzle are charged by a charging electric field generated selectively in accordance with a picture signal at the time of generating the ink droplets and the thus charged ink droplets are deflected by a deflecting electric field, the charge imparted to the ink droplets is varied for each droplet or every several droplets in the increasing direction or in the decreasing direction. Then, by utilizing the correlation between the number no of the ink droplets required for detecting the charge and the number nsa of the ink droplets used before the time of detecting the charge at the charge detecting electrode, the charge level deflection steps na, nb, nc (which correspond to the charging voltages) of the ink droplets impinging against one end of the charge detecting electrode are obtained.
