Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the ink droplets from joining together and reduce the disturbance in the flying paths of the ink droplets, by a method wherein the electric field between the charging electrode and the deflecting electrodes is so directed as to accelerate the charged printing ink droplets and to decelerate the induction-charged nonprinting ink droplets. CONSTITUTION:By grounding the other charging electrode faced to the deflecting electrode 51 located on the side of the deflection for printing, the charging electrode 4 and the deflecting electrodes 51, 52 are provided with such polarities that the electric field between the charging electrode 4 and the deflecting electrodes 51, 52 is so directed as to accelerate the charged printing ink droplets and to decelerate the induction-charged ink droplets. Supposing the flying path of the noncharged droplets lies in the middle of the deflecting electrodes 51 and 52, and considering the fact that Vc<Vd and Vd-Vc>Vc, then the right-directed field between the electrodes 4 and 51 is stronger than the left-directed field between the electrodes 4 and 52, and the field between the electrode 4 and the electrodes 51, 52 is directed rightwards and slightly slanted toward the electrode 51, resulting in that the electrode 51 is farther from the flying path of the noncharged ink droplets than the electrode 52 is. Accordingly, the field Ecd becomes approximately parallel to the flying path of the ink droplets, effectively preventing the joining of the droplets as well as the disturbance in the flying paths.
