Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the development method of good image reproducibility and long life of developer by electrically or mechanically removing the developer on a magnetic roll during the time when the next developer is being supplied after ending of the development.
CONSTITUTION: The developer on the surface of a developing sleeve 2 after the ending of development has caused a change in its thickness and characteristics. Threupon, the developer removing roll 6 applied with the voltage of polarity opposite from the developer polarity is disposed in proximity to the surface of the sleeve 2 before the next developer is supplied from a hopper 5 after ending of the development, so that the developer is electrostatically sucked and removed. If the coating of the developer is done again after the surface of the sleeve 2 has been made always clean in this way, then the occurrence of the ghost images owing to remaining of the hysteresis of the developer is obviated and the decrease in the development capacity owing to the formation of the thin layer of the developer may be prevented, thus the always stable development performance may be maintained.
