Abstract

PURPOSE: To make toner charge quantity constant despite change in bias voltage by making developing bias voltage variable and changing the voltage to be applied to an electrode in order to maintain the potential difference between a rotator and electrode at a fixed relation.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of a method of developing electrostatic latent images by contacting a voltage-applied electrode 4 to the toner 7 of a rotator 2 and charging the toner 7 to the specified polarity, the surface potential on an electrostatic latent image carrier photosensitive drum 1 is detected with a surface electrometer 9 and according to this the developing bias to be applied to the rotator 2 is changed. At the same time, the voltage to be applied to an electrode 4 is changed so as to maintain the fixed relation of the potential difference between the rotator 2 and electrode 4. Hence, the charge quantity of the toner 7 becomes constant despite the change in the developing bias voltage.
