Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain good cleaning effect without complicating a device, by applying proper different voltages in developing and cleaning in a copying method using a one-component type developer consisting mainly of a nonmagnetic toner.
CONSTITUTION: In the copier using a nonmagnetic one-component type toner and operating development and cleaning in the same device, developing bias voltage VS to be applied to roller 7 in developing is made positive like an electrostatic latent image and the difference between voltage VS and voltage VN is made smaller than development start voltage VK. On the other hand, toner supplied from hopper 8 is negatively charged by voltage VE of charge injection ielectrode 9 and moves to the image section of drum 1 kept at higher voltage VI than that of roller 7, thus the latent image is developed. In cleaning, the difference between lowered voltage VI' and constant bias voltage VS is set to a value lower than voltage VK, voltage VE to be applied to electrode 9 is made positive, thus permitting the difference between voltages VE and VS to be reduced, the charge amount of the toner to decrease, attachment to drum 1 to be prevented, and further, the residual toner on drum 1 to be removed with roller 7 for cleaning.
