Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sufficient cleaing effect, while reducing the charge of a developing agent, by sufficiently charging a one-component magnetic developing agent during the development with a charge injecting elecrode and by varying the bias voltage for impressing the charge injecting electrode during the cleaning operation.
CONSTITUTION: The electrostatic latent imgage 1 on a drum 1 is visualized by a magnetic brush developing device 4 using one-component magnetic developing agent. The device 4 is equipped with an electrode injecting electrode 8 acting as a doctor, and the developing bias voltage Vs is made during development to be of the same polarity to that of the image and to have its difference from the texture potential lower than the development starting value. The electrode 8 is supplied with such a bias voltage VF as has the opposite polarity to that of the image. During the cleaning operation, a change-over switch 11 is interchanged to the position shown in broken line, and the vias voltage VE is made to have its differnce from the voltage Vs smaller than that during the developing operation, thus effecting the cleaning operation.
