Abstract

PURPOSE: Molten slag is bubbled and agitated by blowing-gas while cooling, so as to promote crystal growing, then the slag is water crushed. No expensive apparatus is required in this process, and yet it offers water-crushed slag which is highly substitutable for natural sand.
CONSTITUTION: Molten slag 1 from a blast furnace is moved into a proper heat- resistant container such as ladle 2 for bubbling treatment. Bubbling is treated such that a gas such as N2, air and steam is jetted from lead edges of heat-resistant bubbling tubes 4a, 4b connected to gas hoses 6a, 6b. To be more effective, the bubbling tubes 4a, 4b may be supported by guide rollers 5a, 5b so as to make reciprocating motion as shown by arrows. This process results in promoted cooling rate, homogenized dispersion of generated nucleus into the molten slag, uniform crystal growing and increased ratio of crystal content. Further effect is achieved by incorporating inoculation agent into the blowing gas to be jetted into the molten slag 1.
