Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a starting material composed of mixed gas suitable for use in the synthesis of methanol, by adjusting the water content of a material to be treated so as to give the ratio of H2/CO of about 2 in cracked gas in the melt treatment of industrial waste, etc.
CONSTITUTION: There is utilized for this process a close correlation between the water content of a material to be treated and the content of CO2, CO, H2, etc. in produced cracked gas. Industrial waste is introduced through a feeder 11 into a melting furnace 1 where the waste is cracked with heating. The resulting cracked gas is passed through a purifying apparatus 5 and a gas holder 12, and recovered for use. In the above process, part of cracked gas is passed through a sampling device 7 into an analyzer 8 where the contents of CO and H2 are determined. By using the determined values, the supply amount of C supplied through a controller 21 from a tank 9 and the supply amount of H2O from a tank 10 are controlled to adjust the water content of the material to be treated so as to give the ratio of H2/CO of 2 in cracked gas.
