Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently cake sludge with cement, while inhibiting deterioration of treatment derived from the presence of salty content, by preremoving the salty content from sludge containing noxious heavy metals, and then caking the sludge with cement.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy metal-treated slurry sludge 4 having a salt concentration of 15wt% is concentrated in a thickener 1 and fed as concentrated sludge 5 to a filter press 2. The sludge having a water content of 98wt% is dewatered into a state having a water content of 60wt% by the filter press 2. The dewatered sludge 6 is mixed with clear water 10 by a mixing crusher 9 and converted into uniform high water content sludge. The uniform high water content sludge 11 is returned to the filter press 2 and dewatered into a state having a water content of about 60wt% again. The said treatment is repeated one or more times. Thus, dewatered sludge 6a, whose salt concentration is lowered, is fed to a cement- caking apparatus 3.
