Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the size of a decarburizing furnace smaller, by putting molten cast iron contg. limited contents of C, Si, P and S into a crucible-shaped decarburization furnace to occupy a specific ratio of the furnace volume, by feeding O2 on the surface of the molten cast iron without addn. of slag making material, and by introducing a gas into the lower part of the molten cast iron in order to conduct compulsive agitation.
CONSTITUTION: Molten cast iron contg. ≥3.8% C, a trace amount of Si, ≤0.025% P, ≤0.02% S, is put into a crucible-shaped decarburizing furnace to 25W60% of the furnace vol. Then decarburization is conducted by blowing O2 on the surface of the molten cast iron without addn. of slag making material, and by introducing stirring gas such as N2 or air into the lower part of the molten cast iron in order to stir the cast iron. Because no slag is added, this method makes possible the decarburization without slag at a high furnace vol. efficiency in the absence of CaO and MgO, which are the main components of the slag formed by conventional methods.
