Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent nozzle choke, maintain sufficient rates of flow of blowing gases and achieve the improvement in refining effect by containing the specified density of O2 in the inert gas to be blown under the molten metal surface. CONSTITUTION:The converter is constituted by internally lined refractories 1, converter body shell 2, oxygen blowing lance 3, tuyere 4 for bottom and inert gas feed pipe 5. It is also so constituted that the respective gases from an inert gas feed source 8 such as of Ar, N2, etc. and O2 or O2-containing gas feed source 9 are mixed in a mixer 6 and are then fed 5 into the converter through the tuyere 4. In the above constitution, inert gas (e.g.; Ar gas) of O2 density 0.5-21% is blown under the molten metal surface through the tuyere 5 in the furnace bottom. As a result, the improvement in refining effect owing to holding of the mixing performance of the molten metal in addition to the abovementioned characteristics as well as high effect in terms of maintenance of equipment such as nozzle maintenance, etc. are given.
