Abstract
PURPOSE:To accelerate the slag formation of a slag making agent and to promote the contact of molten metal with the molten slag to accelerate the refining reaction of the molten metal, by blowing an inert gas into an oxygen top blown converter during oxygen blowing from a specific position at the furnace bottom. CONSTITUTION:In an oxygen top blown converter 12, pure oxygen is blown into the molten metal through a top blowing lance 11 to manufacture steel through refining, e.g., desiliconization, decarbonization, dephosphorization. At that time, an inert gas such as Ar etc. is blown into the molten metal through nozzles X, Y, Z or a, b, c, d made in the furnace bottom portion of a concentric circle of a diameter D' which is not larger than 3/4 that of the converter bottom D. A slag making agent such as granular lime may be mixed with the Ar gas. The quantity of the blowing gas is 0.025-0.5Nm<3> per ton molten per min. Hereby, the slag making agent is mixed excellently with the molten metal to form molten slag rapidly, bringing the molten slag into better contact with the molten metal, and accelerating the refining reaction of the molten steel.
