Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a gas by the use of an existing blast furnace, by charging the blast furnace with coke and a slagging agent from the top thereof, and introducing an O2-containing gas (and steam) through a tuyere to the furnace, and at the same time, introducing steam for cooling the furnace through a port other than the tuyere, thereby lowering the temperature of the gas at the top of the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Coke and a slagging agent such as limestone, fluorite, etc., are charged into a blase furnace through the top thereof. An O2-containing gas such as air (which may contain steam, hydrocarons, etc.) is introduced in the furnace through a tuyere 1, and steam is introduced into the furnace through another port 2 at the middle part of the furnace. The position of the port is pref. between the stock-line and the tuyere of the furance. The steam introduced into the furnace induces the water gas reaction, i.e. C+H2O→CO+H2, and the temperature of gas at the top of the furnace can be controlled by the heat absorption by this reaction. The temperature of the exhausted gas can be lowered by this process, and the equipment at the top of the tower or for the treatment of the exhausted gas can be protected.
