Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent gradation disorder and fogging in a recorded image, by applying a development bias voltage higher than the optimum value in the direction of latent image charge polarity to form a reversed developed image, and by transferring the image with a predetermined polarity transfer bias voltage.
CONSTITUTION: On primary recording medium 1 static latent image 4 of positive polarity is formed having different voltage, such as 550 V or 30W50 V in accordance with the black and white levels of an original. This latent image 4 is developed in developing station 15 with a magnetic toner of 109W1016 ohm.cm resistivity charged with development bias voltage source 3 set to positive 600 V or the like somewhat higher than the optimum bias voltage where black level density decreases to the minimum, and in the same polarity as that of image 4, resulting in forming a developed image having reversed black and white levels with slight fog and good gradation. This developed image is transferred with transfer corona charger 10 onto recording medium 9 with transfer bias voltage applied in the same polarity as that of image 4, resulting in recording a good image of good gradation and low fog.
