Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent defects due to the edge effect of a toner image, by rendering volume resistivity of the magnetic powder carrier of the first toner different from that of the second toner in developing static latent images different from each other in polarity on a latent image bearing body with 2 color toners different from each other in charge polarity. CONSTITUTION:For example, a negative latent image on the surface of photoreceptor 1 as a latent image bearing body is developed with black toner TBL, and a positive latent image with red toner TR. When the latent image is developed with the first toner TR and then, the other latent image is developed with the second toner TBL, red border R1 occurs around black image BL1 with white ground W1 between them on account of the edge effect. In order to prevent border R1, volume resistivity of a magnetic powder carrier used with toner TBL is made in 10<5>- 10<8>OMEGAcm, and that of the carrier used with toner TR is made in 10<10>-10<11>OMEGAcm. As a result, it is prevented that the latent image to be developed with toner TBL causes charge leakage due to the carrier of toner TR, and undergoes deformation, thus permitting the edge effect to be prevented.
