Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain good-quality two-color images by making the potential of the ground part to the same polarity as that of the toners used in the second magnetic brush development and increasing the toner mixing ratio of the second magnetic brush development in the electrostatic latent image forming process.
CONSTITUTION: A photosensitive drum 1 is so charged that the red-color part and ground part potentials VR, VG of the photoreceptor surface become negative and |VR|>|VG| and the black-color part potential V13 becomes positive. The absolute value of developing bias is made slightly higher with |VG|in the 1st brush development, thence the positive-charged toners TR develop only the electrostatic latent images corresponding to the red-color part excluding the ground part. Even if the toner mixing ratio of the negative-charged black-and-white toners TB is increased in the second magnetic brush development, the ground part is of negative potential and therefore staining of the ground part by the black-color toners TB does not occur, hence the rubbing force of the magnetic brush may be weakened by increasing the toner mixing ratio and the damaging of the already developed images may be obviated.
