Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable developed images which are even in image density, are free from fog and do not cause out-of-focus at the circumferential edge parts of the images at all times to be obtained by disposing a developer layer whose volume resistivity is dependent of electric fields in proximity at a suitable distance from the surface of an image carrier.
CONSTITUTION: The developer D in a developer vessel 1 forms a developer layer D1 by passing through the opening 11 between a non-magnetic material cylindrical sleeve 2 which is fixedly disposed with a magnet roller 3 therein and rotates in the arrow (a) direction and the protruding part 4 of a holder 4. The layer D1 is defined to the developer layer D2 of about 100μ in thickness by a developer layer thickness defining plate 5. The image carrier 6 carrying electrostatic charged images rotates in the arrow (b) direction and the spacing between the carrier 6 and the sleeve 2 is maintained at 102 to 1100μ. As the layer D2 enters the field acting region based on the electrostatic charges of the surface of the carrier 6 or approaches thereto, the field intensity increases and therefore the volume resistivity of the developer D decreases and the developer particles bristle in ear form toward the image region and the extension development in which the ends of the ears contact is well accomplished.
