Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 [発明の技術分野] 本発明は、支持基体上に積層された記録膜を局部的に混
合あるいは合金化することにより、情報の記録を行う情
報記録媒体に関する。
[発明の技術的背景とその問題点] 近年大容量の記録媒体として光ディスクが使用されてい
るが、その一つとして支持基体に積層させた2層の記録
膜を局部的に混合あるいは合金化することにより情報の
書込みを行なうようにした光ディスクが提案されている
(特願昭59−14058)。
第2図は、このような光ディスクの構造を概略的に示す
断面図である。
この光ディスクは、支持基板1上に、Al、Au、Pb、Sn、
Te等の金属薄膜2を形成し、さらにこの上に金属薄膜2
とは異なる透明材質、たとえばGe、Si等の半導体薄膜3
を形成した構造となっている。
そして、この光ディスクは、その半導体薄膜3にレーザ
光4の細いビームを照射して金属薄膜2に熱エネルギー
を与え、両者を溶融させることにより行なわれる。
レーザ光4の照射された半導体薄膜3の表面には、第3
図および第4図に示すように両層の材料が混合あるいは
合金化した記録部位5が形成され、この記録部位5の光
学的性質は記録が行なわれなかった部位の光学的性質と
は明確に異なっているので、この光学的性質の相違を利
用して情報の読取りを行うことができる。
しかしながらこのような光ディスクでは、常温において
も拡散効果により両層の材質の混合化が進んで金属薄膜
2と半導体薄膜3との境界面の光学的性質が変化するた
め、長期間の書込み特性の維持あるいは書込み後の保存
に耐えないという問題があった。
[発明の目的] 本発明は上記の事情に基づいてなされたもので、長期に
わたる書込み特性の維持および書込み後の保存を可能と
した上記の光学的記録方式による情報記録媒体を提供し
ようとするものである。
[発明の概要] すなわち本発明は上記目的を達成するために、支持基体
と、この支持基体上に積層形成され、炭素を含む材料を
プラズマ重合させたプラズマ重合膜からなる透明なアン
ダーコート層と、このアンダーコート層上に積層された
第1の記録膜と、この第1の記録膜上に積層され、炭素
を含む材料をプラズマ重合させたプラズマ重合膜からな
る透明なバリア層と、このバリア層上に積層され、前記
第1の記録膜とは異なる材質の第2の記録膜とから構成
され、これら第1および第2の記録膜が局部的に照光さ
れることにより混合あるいは合金化し情報が記録され
る。
[発明の実施例] 以下本発明を図面を参照しながら説明する。
第1図は本発明の一実施例を示す断面図である。
この実施例の情報記録媒体は、PMMA(ポリメチルメタク
リレート)よりなる透明な基板1上に、密着性を向上さ
せるために、メタンガスをプラズマ重合させたプラズマ
重合膜よりなる透明なアンダーコート層6が形成されて
いる。そしてこの上に厚さ200〜400Å程度のAl、Au、P
b、Sn、Te等の金属薄膜2が付着され、さらにその上に
厚さ30〜100Åのメタンガスをプラズマ重合させたプラ
ズマ重合膜からなる透明なバリヤ層7と、厚さ200〜300
ÅのGe、Si等の半導体薄膜3が順に形成されている。8
は、半導体薄膜3上に形成されたアセチルセルロースよ
りなるオーバーコート層である。透明なバリヤ層7の厚
さが10Åより薄いとバリヤ層としての効果が少なく、逆
に100Åを越えると情報の書込みのために高エネルギー
のレーザビームが必要にあるので上記範囲がこのまし
い。なお、上記の透明なバリヤ層7は、金属薄膜2の酸
化物層、特に陽極酸化による酸化物層を用いることもで
きる。
この光ディスクは、その半導体薄膜3にレーザ光4の細
いビームを照射すると、半導体薄膜2および透明なバリ
ヤ層7を透過して金属薄膜2に熱エネルギーが与えら
れ、これらの層が溶融あるいは拡散して半導体薄膜と金
属薄膜の混合が行なわれる。
したがったレーザ光4の照射された半導体薄膜3の表面
には、第3図および第4図に示したように両層の材料が
混合あるいは合金化した記録部位5が形成され、この記
録部位5の光学的性質は記録が行なわれなかった部位の
光学的性質とは明確に異なっているので、この光学的性
質の相違を利用して情報の読取りを行うことができる。
またレーザ光が照射されない状態においては、バリヤ層
が金属薄膜層と半導体層間の拡散を阻害するので、情報
記録媒体の保存寿命を長くし、書き込み特性を長期間維
持することができる。
なお以上の実施例では、記録膜として金属薄膜と半導体
薄膜とを用いた例について説明したが、本発明はこのよ
うな実施例に限定されるものではなく、半導体薄膜に代
えて異種の金属薄膜を用いることも可能である。
また以上の実施例では、レーザ光を半導体薄膜側から照
射したが、本発明はこのような実施例に限定されるもの
ではなく、基板側から入射してもよい。
[発明の効果] 以上説明したように、本発明においては異なる材質の記
録膜の局部的な混合あるいは合金化によって記録を行う
情報記録媒体において、これらの層間に常温において両
層が拡散するのを阻害するバリヤ層を設けて常温におけ
る両層間の拡散を防止したので、情報記録媒体の保存寿
命を長くし、書き込み特性を長期間維持することができ
る。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】支持基体と、 この支持基体上に積層形成され、炭素を含む材料をプラ
    ズマ重合させたプラズマ重合膜からなる透明なアンダー
    コート層と、 このアンダーコート層上に積層された第1の記録膜と、 この第1の記録膜上に積層され、炭素を含む材料をプラ
    ズマ重合させたプラズマ重合膜からなる透明なバリア層
    と、 このバリア層上に積層され、前記第1の記録膜とは異な
    る材質の第2の記録膜とから構成され、 これら第1および第2の記録膜が局部的に照光されるこ
    とにより混合あるいは合金化し情報が記録される情報記
    録媒体。
  2. 【請求項2】前記バリア層が、30〜100Åの厚さであっ
    て、情報記録時に加えられる外部エネルギーにより破壊
    されるものである特許請求の範囲第1項記載の情報記録
    媒体。
  3. 【請求項3】前記バリア層が、記録膜の表面に形成され
    た酸化膜である特許請求の範囲第1項記載の情報記録媒
    体。
